Meeting at the intersection of art and design, each piece is made from wood – chosen for its tactile and yielding nature – and revisits traditional craft in a thoroughly modern way. After being hand-turned, the sculpted objects undergo a specialized burning process that results in an appearance that manages to be both fluid and static, and one that intentionally conveys the struggles, events, love, loss, pain, suffering and – above all – beauty that the black body endures.

A result of experimentation with geometric forms in the Apparatus library, the censer connects ancient ritual with the tradition of coveted objects. Spun, cast and machined brass are assembled to create a form that recalls a chalice. As an incense burner, smoke emerges from a hand-cast porcelain dome and as a candleholder the censer becomes a brass torch that emits a soft glow. An ashtray in unlacquered polished brass designed by Carl Auböck II circa 1950. The crown is now being cast, using the same sculptured wooden positive mould, in the same workshop by Carl Auböck IV. The fourth-generation Viennese workshop of Carl Auböck combines traditional craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic. This beautiful and functional bottle opener is made using the ‘sand cast’ technique. It has a bright polish at first, but the colour gradually turns darker to show a distinctive patina with handling over time. Using it often and for a long time unveils the beauty of the material to its maximum potential. Founded in 1879, Futagami is one of Japan’s oldest metal manufacturers. Its collaboration with designer Masanori Oji has created a modern minimalist line of brass ware home goods that combine traditional techniques and materials with modern shapes. The Frame Bottle Opener is made of cast solid brass. The outside surface has a satin, brushed finish which contrasts beautifully with the rough texture inside. It's designed by Oji Masanori and manufactured at Futagami, one of Japan's oldest metal foundries. As you use it over the years, it will gain a rich patina due to oxidization. A camel colored patina is expected to develop within 5 years, and a russet brown color patina is expected to develop at approximately 30 years. A green rust might also appear. This can be removed with a mixture of vinegar and salt.

Spun, cast and machined brass are assembled to create a form that recalls a chalice. As an incense burner, smoke emerges from a hand-cast porcelain dome and as a candleholder the censer becomes a brass torch that emits a soft glow. Since 2003, the woodworking studio has been making solid wood furniture, oval boxes, and tableware in Nagano, Japan. The craftsman happened to meet Shaker objects when he was 15. It would lead him to be a wood worker. In 2003, he launched his woodworking studio. He was inspired by shakers, European, African and Japanese crafted items. The boxes expresses these essences in shape and adds a unique touch in color by vegetable dying.
