In a “shield of glass”, Antwerp based photographer Sylvie Vandewalle explores the border between portraiture and abstract art.
Reminiscent of the Baroque and Impressionist movement, Sylvie positions her camera in front of textured glass to evoke a mixture between Rembrandt’s expressive brush strokes and clair obscure and Francis Bacon’s abstract sensibilities.

InHale Wall Piece

In Hale Wallpiece is a work that reflects light.
Made of inflated stainless steel, brass or copper—a technique of which the results are always unpredictable—it takes the shape of a cushion. Storms inflates sheet metal against a piece of stone and thereby transforms it into a three-dimensional shape which echoes the shape of the stone. This process not only changes the look but also the structural properties of the metal.
He first explored this idea for the In Hale table, where the cushion supports a massive block of marble. Here, the cushion is left by itself and placed against the wall.
Like other works by Ben Storms, it defies our archetypical preconceptions of materials, shapes and functions: the solid and heavy metal here looks soft and functions as some sort of mirror by reflecting light in a poetic manner.

Caroline Denervaud is a Swiss Multi-disciplinary artist who lives in Paris. She studied dance at the Laban Center in London and Fine Arts in Paris at Studio Berçot.
It begins with a line, guided by the body’s movement or by hand. The trace left on paper or canvas will be my foundation, a reference. Followed by the second line, this time more aware, that links the traces and draws the forms. The application of colour now begins, playing with harmony and contrast, a study of balance-imbalance.
Each painting is born from an intrinsic movement and finally reflects a game when colours have hidden the trace to recreate their own abstract dialogue.
