The story of this table started a few years ago with college friends Arno Broeckhoven, Ellen Van Laerwith (AE Studio) and Frank Stabel (Haring). While in the process of designing their communal office/dining table they came across some waste materials, recuperated from a local production line. The materials recovered determined the possibilities and characteristics of their final design.
Sustainability is at the core of what they do thus, reusing leftover materials is a crucial element of the design & production. Despite the laborious task of sorting and assembling, the tabletop is made out of solid oak slats found in heaps of wood scraps of a small sawmill that sources their wood within the region of Antwerp, Belgium.
The selected oak slats are then laminated into a stretcher bond and are meticulously torched and oiled (a natural way to preserve and protect the wood). The charring of the oak renders a deep charcoal-black that reveals clean, distinct lines and an inherent textural beauty.
The blackened steel trestles are naturally treated and detailed with custom brass caps and screws.
