A newly cast watering can made by the Werkstätte Carl Auböck. The watering can was designed in the 1950s by Auböck II, the grandfather of Carl Auböck IV who runs the workshop today.
The solid sand-cast brass body of the can has been patinated whilst the handle is bound in intricate wicker and the rolled brass spout is polished.
The fourth-generation Viennese workshop of Carl Auböck combines traditional craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic. The enduring nature of Auböck designs like this Watering Can can be attributed to “simplicity and high quality—no fashionable tricks,” says Carl Auböck IV, who oversees the workshop with his sister, Maria. “Such artefacts develop a soul over time, a certain patina.”
This unlacquered brass object will develop a patina over time. Polish by buffing with soft cloth. Brass polish may also be used; use a second clean, dry cloth to buff the brass to a shine.
